The original 1968 Dodge Charger Hemi in good condition can now be purchased for 80-150 thousand dollars. Thus, Mopar had to make a good investment in order to be able to install its megamotor in the original chassis. And then remake it beyond recognition. Given the volume of alterations, it would be cheaper, easier and more rational in every sense to use one of the modern chassis. Which, as I understand it, there is no shortage of it, and which can be obtained almost from the assembly line, to any degree of readiness to turn into a 1000-horsepower Supercharger.
